Donation of Industrial Glazing Robot Highlights Stronger Industry–University Cooperation
Yazd University has honored Masoud
Zakerian, Board Member and Director of Pearl Sanitary Ware Factories, in recognition of his donation of a glazing robot to the university’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and his support for the institution’s scientific and technological activities.
The ceremony, attended by the President of Yazd University and members of the university’s Supporters Foundation, underscored the importance of expanding collaboration between industry and academia and leveraging their shared capacities to advance technology, skills development, and problem-oriented research.
According to Yazd University’s Public Relations Office, University President Dr. Seyed Heidar Mirfakhraddini praised the contribution and highlighted the university’s scientific and research capabilities in addressing the needs of local industries.
“Yazd University possesses extensive expertise across various scientific and technical fields, and industries can benefit from these capacities by presenting their challenges and requirements to the university,” he said.
Dr. Mirfakhraddini also emphasized the potential of the university’s Technology Campus and plans to establish a research park in the near future. He described the establishment of industrial research and development (R&D) centers within the university environment as an effective strategy for strengthening ties between academia and industry.
He stressed that university activities should have a tangible impact on
society, noting that research outcomes and scientific initiatives must
contribute to solving industrial and social challenges. He added that talented
students at the university are well-positioned to play a significant role in
technological advancement and meeting industrial needs.
During the event, Dr. Ghasem Baridloghmani, CEO of the Yazd University Supporters Foundation, commended Zakerian’s philanthropic initiative, noting that a substantial portion of the university’s infrastructure has been developed through the support of generous benefactors from Yazd Province.
“We hope this valuable culture of philanthropy will continue to expand in the fields of science, technology, and research,” he said.
Referring to leading universities around the world, Baridloghmani added that many
prominent institutions rely heavily on donor contributions for financial
support and expressed hope that similar practices would become more widespread
in Iran.
Speaking at the ceremony, Zakerian highlighted the important role of
industry in supporting academic institutions.
“We are pleased to have taken even a small step toward advancing science and technology in the province,” he said. “Pearl Sanitary Ware has earned a trusted position in the national market, and we are committed to maintaining and strengthening that standing.”
Zakerian also emphasized the need for closer interaction between industry
and universities, noting that students require greater exposure to real
industrial environments and practical technical knowledge.
“Industrial visits and educational tours can help students better understand industry needs, enhance their skills, and pave the way for more effective cooperation between the two sectors,” he said.
He further expressed hope that universities would assist industries in
improving productivity and efficiency through the transfer of modern knowledge
and technologies, while encouraging students to embrace engineering thinking,
innovation, and creativity in line with global developments.
Participants in the meeting also stressed the importance of increasing
industry trust in universities, training specialized professionals, expanding
applied research, and creating opportunities for more active industrial
participation in scientific and technological activities.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Zakerian received a plaque of
appreciation in recognition of his support for education, research, and
technological development at Yazd University. He was also presented with a
commemorative copy of the book In the Presence of the Virtuous: Remembering
the Supporters of Yazd University.
