Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Yazd Water Museum to commemorate International Museum Day and Cultural Heritage Day, he stated that the Roknieh School water clock, which stood in front of the historical school in the 8th century AH, was considered among the most advanced traditional timekeeping devices in the Islamic world. This device, a type of clock tower, utilized water power to display the daily hours and the annual calendar.
Dr. Shahabi Nejad added that this valuable heritage was unfortunately destroyed after the Timurid era, with only its name remaining in the Vaqt-o-Saat (Time and Clock) Square of Yazd. Consequently, the Yazd Regional Water Company commissioned a project to recreate this prominent artifact with the aim of understanding and showcasing it.
Referring to the scientific collaboration involved in the project, he noted that the implementation of this plan commenced in late 2022 with the participation of Mazdabad Technology Company, faculty members from Yazd University (himself and Dr. Hadi Loukzadeh), a group of students from the architecture department and the faculty of physics, and the support of the Vice-Presidency for Research and Technology of Yazd University.
The CEO of Mazdabad Technology Company emphasized that within the framework of this project, a computer-based reconstruction of the timekeeping device was carried out, and a small-scale model of this historical clock, complete with all its original functions, was designed and built. This model is now on display at the Yazd Water Museum for public viewing.
