Iran and Pakistan Lay Groundwork for Enhanced Academic Cooperation
In a significant step toward strengthening academic and cultural ties, Dr. Asghar Masoudi, Cultural Attaché and Head of the Iranian Cultural Center in Lahore, Pakistan, met with Dr. Abbas Kalantari, President of Yazd University, to discuss avenues for expanding collaboration between Iran and Pakistan.

According to the Public Relations Office of Yazd University, the meeting, held during Dr. Masoudi’s visit to Yazd province, was attended by Dr. Ali Mirvakili, Director of International Scientific Cooperation Office at Yazd University, and Hamid Hekmat, Secretary of the Second Phase of the Islamic Revolution Statement in Yazd. The discussions focused on strategies to enhance scientific and cultural cooperation between the two nations.

Dr. Kalantari highlighted Yazd University’s current enrollment of 1,500 international students, primarily from Afghanistan, and noted that the university has recently begun admitting Pakistani students. He emphasized Yazd University’s strong international reputation and readiness to collaborate with Pakistani academic institutions. “Given the cultural affinities between our two countries, we are eager to welcome talented and dedicated Pakistani students,” Dr. Kalantari stated. He also mentioned the potential to utilize internal scholarships to support Pakistani students.

Dr. Kalantari further noted Yazd University’s partnerships with organizations such as the Saadi Foundation and CINUV (COMSTECH Inter-Islamic Network of Virtual Universities) of the Islamic World) for Persian language education, expressing enthusiasm for expanding these efforts in collaboration with Pakistan.

Dr. Ali Mirvakili underscored the shared cultural and academic heritage between Iran and Pakistan, advocating for targeted investments to support Pakistani students. He identified key areas for collaboration, including Persian language education, textile engineering, and architecture.

Dr. Masoudi, highlighting Lahore’s cultural significance and the admiration for Iran among Pakistanis, described Pakistan’s substantial academic potential as a bridge for connecting Pakistani students with Iranian universities. “Yazd provides an ideal environment for education, and we hope to foster deeper academic and cultural ties to facilitate Pakistani students’ studies in Iran,” he remarked.

The meeting marks a promising step toward strengthening academic exchanges and cultural bonds between Iran and Pakistan, paving the way for increased collaboration and student mobility.
