Research Groups

The Faculty of Civil Engineering at Yazd University conducts its academic and research activities through three main groups:

1. Structural Engineering Group

This group consists of two main fields:

- Structural Engineering

Focuses on the behavior of structures under different loads and environmental conditions. Key research areas include:

  - Advanced structural analysis and design

  - Dynamics of structures

  - Non-linear behavior of structures

  - Seismic design and retrofitting of structures

- Earthquake Engineering

This field addresses the effects of earthquakes on various structures. Research topics include:

  - Seismic analysis and design of buildings, bridges, and industrial structures

  - Seismic retrofitting of existing structures

  - Dynamic and seismic behavior of structures

  - Seismology and earthquake-resistant design

2. Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering Group

- Geotechnical Engineering

This field studies the engineering behavior of soil and rock and their interaction with structures. Main research areas include:

  - Advanced soil mechanics

  - Foundation engineering

  - Slope stability and earth retaining structures

  - Soil improvement and ground modification

  - Tunnel and dam engineering

- Highway and Transportation Engineering

Focuses on planning, design, construction, and maintenance of transportation systems. Key topics include:

  - Highway and pavement design

  - Transportation planning and modeling

  - Traffic engineering and management

  - Road safety and sustainable transportation

3. Water and Hydraulic Structures Engineering Group

This group focuses on water resources and hydraulic structures. Research areas include:

- Design and analysis of hydraulic structures (dams, spillways, canals, etc.)

- Fluid mechanics and hydraulic modeling

- Water resources management

- Interaction between water structures and geotechnical/structural engineering

- Environmental aspects of water projects
