The Department of Mining Engineering was established
concurrently with Yazd University in 1990 and commenced operations in 1991 with
the admission of its first cohort of students in the Mining Engineering
(Extraction) specialization. Subsequently, the first groups of students were
admitted in the Mining Exploration specialization in 1992 and in Metallurgical
Engineering in 1999. In 2006, with the consensus of the Mining Engineering and Metallurgical
Engineering departments, the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy was officially
established with the approval of the Ministry of Science, Research, and
Technology. Additionally, in 2023, the first cohort of undergraduate students
in Petroleum Engineering was admitted. The core structure of this faculty
encompasses the divisions of Extraction, Exploration, and Materials and
Metallurgy.
Currently, the faculty is actively engaged in educational
and research services, offering five doctoral programs (Mining Exploration,
Mining Extraction, Rock Mechanics, Mineral Processing, and Materials
Engineering), nine master's programs (Mining Exploration, Mining Extraction,
Rock Mechanics, Mineral Processing, Materials Selection and Identification,
Ceramics, Petroleum Exploration, and Petroleum Geomechanics), and three
undergraduate programs (Mining Engineering, Materials and Metallurgical
Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering).
Notable conferences hosted by the faculty include the 4th
Iranian Mining Symposium (1994), the 3rd Mining Engineering Conference (2008),
the 1st National Iranian Mining Technologies Conference (2013), the National
Welding and Inspection Conference (2015), the 2nd National Iranian Mining
Technologies Conference (2016), and the 3rd National Iranian Mining
Technologies Conference (2021).
