  Department of Geography

The Geography Department of Yazd University commenced its activities in 1977 with a geography teaching program at the Faculty of Education, affiliated with Yazd Teacher traing University. Following a hiatus during the Cultural Revolution, it resumed its operations in 1983. In 1984, the first post-revolution students were admitted to this program at the Faculty of Education in Yazd. During the 1970s, the department accepted students in two fields: human geography and physical geography. In the late 1970s, urban planning and geography were added to the undergraduate and graduate programs. In the 1980s, a master's program in climatology was also incorporated into the department. Currently, in the early years of the 21st century, the Geography Department at Yazd University takes pride in offering doctoral programs in climatology, geography, and urban planning. Since the beginning of the 1990s, the department has also admitted  doctoral students in climatology with a specialization in weather  hazards and geography and urban planning. Currently, the Geography  Department consists of two sections: land management and environmental  planning, comprising a total of 15 faculty members, including 3  professors, 6 associate professors, and 6 assistant professors. Over the years, the nature of teaching, workshops, teaching aids, and tools in the field of geography has evolved, and geography has emerged as a highly practical discipline with diverse and innovative orientations.
