The Department of Theology at Yazd University was established in 2000, initially offering Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programs in Jurisprudence and Islamic Laws. In 2008, the department expanded its academic offerings to include Master of Arts (M.A.) programs in the same fields.
To further enhance its educational scope, the department introduced an M.A. program in Nahj al-Balāgha Studies in 2010, specializing in Social and Political Sciences and General Law.
A significant milestone was achieved in 2012 when the department launched its first Ph.D. program in Comparative Exegesis.
