The Department of Physics at Yazd University began its educational activities with the Nuclear Physics and Solid-State Physics programs at the university's inception. Gradually, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Particle Physics, and Meteorology were added. Currently, educational and research activities are conducted across five main educational groups: **Optics and Laser Physics, Particle Physics and Field Theory, Plasma Physics, Nuclear Physics, and Condensed Matter Physics**, offering programs at the undergraduate, master's, and Ph.D. levels.
The department consists of 26 active faculty members, 4 retired faculty members, and 2 affiliated faculty members. Approximately 300 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) are enrolled in various physics programs. The department's research focuses primarily on the following areas: Theoretical and Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, Nanophysics, High Energy and Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics, Theoretical Atomic Physics, Solar Cells, Laser Physics and Optics, Plasma Physics, and Meteorology.
