Introduction to the Social Welfare Studies center
The Social Welfare Studies Center (SWSC) at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Yazd University, began its activities in 2018 with the aim of contributing to the scientific and research needs of Yazd province in particular, and the country in general. The center also seeks to expand international cooperation in the field of social welfare policy.
Currently, the CSWS has two research groups: "Gender and Family Studies" and "Welfare and Urban Sustainability Studies". These groups were officially approved by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology in August 2018.
Recently, the center established the "Addiction and Society" research group to provide more specialized research and consulting services to organizations and institutions involved in the control and prevention of substance abuse. The first scientific meeting of this group, entitled "The Problem of Addiction in Yazd Province", was held in December 2018 in collaboration with the Provincial Headquarters for Combating Narcotics and with the participation of experts and representatives of organizations, departments, and institutions involved in the control, prevention, and treatment of drug addiction at Yazd University.
The main objectives of the CSWS are to conduct research, studies, consulting, and publishing in the field of social welfare policy with an emphasis on economic, socio-cultural, and environmental issues at local, national, and international levels. The center adopts an applied approach to solving social problems in Yazd province and Iran in general, and to expanding the scope of application of social sciences in the management of society.
Since its establishment, the CSWS has collaborated with various departments and organizations in the province, including the Governorate, Municipality, Department of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare, Welfare Organization, Headquarters for Combating Narcotics, Broadcasting organization, Civil Registration Organization, Gas Company, Prisons Organization, Planning and Budget Organization, Imam Khomeini Relief Committee, and others. This collaboration has resulted in 15 research projects and 10 cases of financial support for graduate students' theses.
With the scientific and human resources of Yazd University, especially the Faculty of Social Sciences with more than 20 faculty members and more than 250 graduate students (MA and PhD), the SWSC is now capable of providing scientific support to provincial, regional, and national administrative and executive departments. If necessary, the center can also draw on the scientific expertise of other departments at Yazd University and other universities nationwide.
