School of Art and Architecture is the fourth architecture department in
the Ministry of Science, Research, & Technology (After Tehran,
Shahid Beheshti, Science and Technology universities) and it was the
first one not in the capital. The students are trained in three fields
namely: Architecture, Urban Planning and Painting. School of Art and
Architecture was established in 1989 and was situated in the traditional
part of Yazd, Golchinan alley, in a traditional house called
“Rasoliyan’s house”in order to train postgraduate architecture students.
Now it has a collection of traditional houses (Rasouliyan, Kermani,
Shafi Pour, Mortaz, Shafie, etc) to maintain the authenticity of art and
architecture. Department of Urban Planning started its activities in
January 2001 under the title of Daneshkade-ye Shahrsazi. The master
program of Urban Planning and Urban Design was established in 2009. Now
the department has 7 full time and scholarship faculty members. The
Department of Painting founded by Dr. Keshmirshekan started its
activities in January 1995 under the title of Daneshkade- ye Naghashi.
The
school implements different researches on historical and cultural
fields, monuments and buildings at the local, national and international
scales. Moreover the school of art and architecture values the
relationship between neighborhood and the students to enhance the
understanding of traditional and sustainable way of living.
